Odds & Ends 11/25-12/8

The past couple of weeks have been good ones for me. My mom was in town the night before Thanksgiving, so she took me to see Wicked, and it did not disappoint. I honestly can’t imagine a better adaptation of this musical. Cynthia Erivo does a great job as Elphaba, and Ariana Grande sounds nearly identical to Kristen Chenoweth’s Broadway performance in her portrayal of Galinda. I’ll be interested to see what kind of attention it gets come awards season; it’s deserving, but in the past the Academy has tended to prefer artsy over fantastical, though musicals have a little better odds of breaking through. After that, I’ll just have to wait nearly a year for Part Two to come out!

Then I got to have a quiet Thanksgiving weekend at my parents, which was so nice. I hadn’t realized how much I needed that. Getting back to the normal schedule this past week, I managed to finish my Christmas shopping & gift wrapping and squeeze in a little writing. I finally hit a key scene today that I have been chomping at the bit to get to, so I’m very excited about that, and I hope it creates a little momentum going forward.
