2025: A Reading Preview

This is the final post of the year, so that means it’s time to look back on my reading stats for the year, and look ahead to my reading goals for 2025.

I changed jobs in 2024, which brought something new for me: a designated lunch break, which I usually fill by reading to help decompress. This meant a LOT of re-reading this year, as I was going through books much faster than usual. I expect I will end up doing a lot of re-reading next year as well.

The amount of children’s books I’ve read this past year leveled out after two years of growth as my niece developed an interest in books, and I wager it will stay fairly level in 2025.

I had predicted that 2024 would see my reading list lean more adult than young adult and that there might be a few nonfiction books make the cut. In terms of new reads, I was right on the first prediction, though my re-reads were more YA, but the second prediction definitely didn’t happen. Sorry, non-fiction, I needed escapism more this year!

For 2025, I have several adult titles on my list again with touches of magical realism, like Matt Haig’s The Life Impossible, Gareth Brown’s The Book of Doors, and The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi, and a couple new YA novels like House of Roots and Ruin by Erin A. Craig, but I predict the majority of the YA I consume in 2025 will be rereads. And much as I might like to try otherwise, I’m guessing I’ll read one non-fiction book at most in the next year.

How about everyone else? What kind of books did you read in 2024? What are your reading goals for 2025? Share your thoughts in the comments!
