We’re approaching the end of the year, and you know what that means: time to check the reading stats & set my goals for 2026!
According to my Goodreads stats, I’ve read 58 books this year. I predicted that 2025 would contain a lot of YA re-reads peppered with adult titles, and one non-fiction book. While the former is an accurate description of my year in books, I must admit that I did not read a single non-fiction book. There were a few kids books in the mix as I read to both my niece and nephew in the rare moments either of them wanted to sit still, and I’m curious if that will go up a little next year as my niece begins learning to read herself and my nephew becomes more interested in being read to.
In 2025 I discovered what might be one of my favorite adult books to date, The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi, as I continued exploring more magical realism and fantasy titles.
For 2026, my to-read pile leans primarily adult, but not completely. Fantasy and magical realism dominate, but I do have a couple science-fiction titles in the mix, as well as one thriller. And of course, in between all the new books, I am sure I will be re-reading many YA novels as well. Maybe this year I will read a non-fiction book? I have one I would really like to read, it’s just tricky because I have to be in a certain headspace to focus on something that is more instructive than narrative.
