Writing went well this week. I finished the month ahead of my word count goal, and though I know next week will be lower because of holiday activities, I’m hoping I can keep that same level of focus on my writing days and get July off to a strong start.
I would also like to give a special shout-out to genre television this week.
I’ve been into the show Still Star-Crossed on ABC, but after only three episodes, they’ve moved it to Saturdays, which puts it about a step away from being canceled. This frustrates me because it’s summer, what else do they have to air besides re-runs? A show like that has to find its audience, and it can’t do that after three episodes, especially when one of those episodes was already pushed back because of the stupid NBA finals.
I have a lot of feelings about this, but I’m not going to get on that soapbox this week. I would just like to recognize a show that I’ve enjoyed that does not appear to be getting much love & is not likely to receive more.
In a similar spirit, I would also like to recognize iZombie for a fantastic season finale this week. The last scene really got me—I don’t want to spoil anything, so let me just say it was a very sweet character moment that called all the way back to the first episode.
This is another show that could have struggled to survive, but fortunately, the CW is a network that’s a little better at giving things a chance, even if they’re totally weird and off the wall. Because of that, iZombie had a chance to develop from a quirky procedural into something much bigger, a true sci-fi world of its own, and I’m excited to see what’s next.
Anyway, now that that’s off my chest, I’m off to watch some fireworks. Happy 4th of July to my fellow Americans out there, and to those of you who aren’t American, Happy Weekend!
