I got a little writing done this week. Not anything that’s likely to make it into the final draft of the story I’m working on, but some good exercises to deepen my understanding of it.
I tried writing a few scenes from my antagonist’s point of view; some to simply help me work out the timeline of what she’s doing when my protagonist is elsewhere, others to give me more insight into her motivation. I think it helped a bit. I didn’t have any “aha!” moments exactly, but I could feel some small shifts—a different word here, moving a pause there—which I think gave her voice a little more grounding and authenticity than what it had before, and I hope I can build on that going forward.
